Gamers Take Note: A Next Generation Simulation Game Takes You Underwater

Cascade Game Foundry (CGF), a Seattle-based game development studio, has released a new downloadable game that enables players of all ages to experience the beauty, mystery, and serenity of scuba diving. Infinite Scuba is a next-generation simulation game that allows players to “dive in” and virtually explore recreated dive sites around the world.

“We’re thrilled to bring innovative, reality-based underwater exploration to the gaming world,” says Kathie Flood, Managing Director at CGF.  “By combining the beauty of the undersea world with the science and adventure of real diving, we hope to appeal to scuba divers and experienced simulation gamers, as well as more casual gamers interested in exploring and learning about the world’s oceans.”

In the initial release of their downloadable game, players can explore Chuuk Lagoon, a renowned dive destination in the South Pacific that is the site of a pivotal World War 2 battle between Japanese and American forces. Players search for fish and coral, as well as artifacts from the war, each of which unlocks a page of local history or dive science. Players can also take photos to share with friends and earn diving certifications that unlock additional content.

“The game lets the average person scuba dive in remote real-world locations where they can discover undersea wildlife, learn dive science, and take photos to share with their friends,” says Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue founder and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence.  “Experiencing the beauty, mystery and fragility of the ocean in such a hands-on way will inspire the people who play the game to protect our planet’s blue heart.”
