  1. Absolutely stunning photo. I am in awe of this, and I can’t imagine the feeling of seeing this in person. Seeing a magnificent gentle giant like the humpback whale and catching this through the lense. It’s stunning.

Also, i was wondering what type of camera and lense did Kip use to capture this? I am wanting to phitograph many wild life, especially sharks, whales, dolphins, okay the whole entire ocean would be amazing. To show the world the beauty that the ocean has to offer and why we must protect it. If this photo doesn’t draw attention to many people, and the beauty the ocean and Its animals that call it home, as well as the coral reefs, nothing will.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

PS sorry this is so long.

    1. We have alerted Kip to your question and he should be chiming in soon with his reply! Thanks Amanda!

    2. Hi Angela:

Thank you so much for your kind comments! I took this image from my 19′ Boston Whaler some 15 miles from shore. I used my Canon EOS 1Dx, a 70-200 Canon lens and a 1.4 EX. It’s an image I’ve wanted to create for some time, but it’s often too rough, foggy, or the whales aren’t in town when everything falls into place. It took 6-7 evening trips to achieve this result and I was lucky to get it. It also required many return trips in the dark, which is not for everyone.
